Walking, walking and more walking

Another beautiful day in Ambleside, blue sky's and 18 degrees, I've been walking in short sleeves!!!

Today I decided to tackle the circular trail to Rydal Water, the first part is along the road before heading over a cattle grid and starting to climb, the track weaves it's way past old houses and green fields before coming out at Rydal Water, which is a beautiful clear tarn with a small is, land in the middle loaded with ducks and geese and all manner of water fowl. The ducks are mating and watching them stalk the females and strut their stuff was a highlight!!

I walked along the edge of the tarn and soaked up the sunshine, before taking the circular track back to Ambleside, this one follows a burn which drains into Rydal Water along the base of Lougighrig Fell, before arriving back in Ambleside. Walking back I met a couple of foraging pigs who were quite friendly, but extremely vocal!!

The stone bridge over the burn is called Millers Bridge and the meadow is called Millers Bridge Meadow!!

So today I have walked a total of 8 miles which is 12.8kms (and currently I'm at the Royal Oak Hotel having dinner, so I have another 1.5km to walk home!!!!

Late this afternoon I had an incredible spa treatment at the Waterfall Spar, it was called the Beauty Sleep Treatment, a full body hot oil relaxation massage, a facial, and foot massage.  They claim it induces a state of dreamlike relaxation by inducing a meditative state, and oh boy does it - I think I snored at one stage I was so floating and relaxed.

Tomorrow I head off for Lockerbie, I'm going via Gretna Green where Warren & I renewed our vows in 2005.  As its only a couple of hours drive to Lockerbie, I'm going to go into Keswick and look around and then visit the stone circle which is just outside Keswick.

But for tonight, I'm going to finish my pint and head back to the hotel.  Its still light here until 9:30ish so I might just sit in the hotel garden and read my book for a while.

Take care all,  I'll blog again from Fort William.
